2021-22 Blue Knights SPIRIT SQUAD (Cheer & Dance Team) Program

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The St. Louis Christian Homeschool Blue Knights organization was established in 2006 with a single basketball team. Since that time, like-minded families and committed volunteers who are passionate about sports have enabled exponential growth to include several programs, including the cheer and dance teams, which make up the Spirit Squad. Stunts, cheers, dances and friendships are all part of this fun and challenging program!

The Blue Knights organization is much more than a group of sports teams. We are sports-loving, God-loving families with the common goal of drawing closer to Christ through high level athletics and the friendships that are built through striving and celebrating together.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can participate in the Spirit Squad program?
The Cheer and Dance teams are open to all homeschooled middle school and high school girls ages 12-18.

Can my child choose between cheer and dance, or can she do both?
Team members can choose to join one or both teams, as practices overlap with one another.

When does the season begin, and how long does it last?
Pre-season begins over the summer when we hold camp and intensives. Our regular season begins after Labor Day with practices. Games begin in November, and the season ends at NCHBC (National Christian Home School Basketball Championships) in mid-March.

Are tryouts required to join the team?
Yes, tryouts are held in the fall. Summer camps and intensives are offered in late summer to prepare for tryouts.

Where and when are the events/games during which the Spirit Squad will perform?
The cheer team is expected to travel with the varsity boys’ basketball team to all out-of-town tournaments. Non-tournament games are only attended by cheerleaders when games are within 45 minutes of O’Fallon, Missouri. The dance team performs during local home games only.

How do I register for my child to cheer and/or dance with the Blue Knights?
Registration is closed for the current season.

What does it cost to be a member of the Blue Knights Spirit Squad?

  • ANY FEES TO PARTICIPATE?
  • Registration Fee:
    • All athletes must pay a $10 fee that covers insurance, referees, facility fees and other organizational costs.
  • Uniforms:
    • Each team member is required to buy their own uniform and accessories. Many of these items overlap between teams, and many items may be purchased from previous team members for a discounted price.
    • For cheer team, an ESTIMATE buying all items brand new would be $350.
    • For dance team, an ESTIMATE buying all items brand new would be $120.
  • Other expenses:
    • Other expenses may include travel costs for tournaments, team bonding activities, and camps or intensives.

Are there any discounts for siblings? No

Are other discounts or scholarships available?
There is a discount for pastors’ families. Email [email protected] for scholarship application.

What will be expected of me and my child if we decide to participate in a Blue Knights program?

MSHSAA eligibility (Is this necessary for cheer program?)
Players must be homeschooled for 365 consecutive days before they are eligible to participate in MSHSAA games. *Note: Parents should not contact MSHSAA regarding their questions, complaints or concerns. All questions to MSHSAA need to go through Blue Knights Athletic Director, Rick Tucker, via email at [email protected].

What should I do if I have an issue with a coach or with someone within the Blue Knights organization?
